You might as well be sending resumes into a black hole. You dutifully check monster and indeed every day. You pore over listings for jobs for which you are overqualified and feel not good enough for them. You swear daily that if you are ever employed again, you'll return people's calls and in a reasonable amount of time. You're contemplating jobs and pay levels that you haven't considered since high school. You think you may be unemployable. It's lonely. It's scary. It's bringing out the worst in you. You're wondering what it is you were good at and where your confidence went.
You're not alone. And it's so much better than you think.
To begin with, there is endless opportunity out there. Want proof? Look at how much need there is. Where there is need, there is opportunity.
It may be true that the things that used to work to get work don't work right now. Don't despair. There is an alternate path.

It's going to take some work. And it's going to take some play. It's going to take being open to new ideas, doing things in new ways and discovering strengths you didn't even know you had. It's going to take believing in yourself and getting creative at a level you may not have ever experienced before.
